Larry King Cardiac Foundation Partners with Spirit of Women's HeartCaring To Reduce Disparities In Caring for America's Hearts
SAN ANTONIO, May 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In an ongoing effort to save the lives of thousands of Americans at risk of cardiovascular ailments each year, Spirit of Women Health Network has joined forces with the Larry King Cardiac Foundation (LKCF) to help reduce the devastating disparity in the diagnostics, clinical care, and survival rate of heart attacks, strokes and other heart events for women and people of color.
This partnership will compliment current partnerships between HeartCaring and The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), The Heart Truth, Vascular Disease Foundation, the Peripheral Arterial Disease (P.A.D.) Coalition, and the Venous Disease Coalition.
"As a survivor of quintuple by-pass surgery, I am a huge proponent for the health education and community outreach strategies offered by programs such as HeartCaring," said Larry King, founder of LKCF and renowned news broadcaster."I believe our partnership with this program will save lives."
The partnership was announced to nearly 100 healthcare professionals and hospital administrators gathered this week for the 8th Annual HeartCaring Conference, a national program utilizing grassroots methods to improve gender-sensitive cardiovascular care.
Spirit of Women aims to use its HeartCaring program, with its focus on reducing disparities in diagnosis and care, to help further LKCF's ambitious goal of "Save a Heart a Day".
"This partnership will empower families and health care providers to make important heart health decisions, which will have immense ramifications for protecting the heart health of Americans," said Tanya Abreu, President of Spirit Health Group and HeartCaring National Program Director. "And there is no greater work than protecting and cherishing the health of the American family, and we are proud to be part of this partnership."
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of men and women, and more women die from heart disease than all forms of cancer combined.
