Las Encinas Hospital Awarded Top Performer Status For 2013 From The Joint Commission
PASADENA, Calif., Nov. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year in a row, Las Encinas Hospital has been named as a Top Performer for hospital-based inpatient psychiatric care by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. The results, released today, are based on data reported by more than 3,300 Joint Commission accredited hospitals in 2013. These hospitals represent rural and urban locations, all U.S. regions, and all sizes and types of hospitals, from small critical access hospitals to large academic medical centers.
Very few free-standing psychiatric facilities in California are ranked as a Top Performer in The Joint Commission's Annual Report on Quality and Safety. Hospitals receiving Top Performer designation must achieve a performance rate of 95 percent or more for each measure. Las Encinas Hospital achieved 100 percent compliance in all their performance measures related to patient care and patient safety. This is the second consecutive year that Las Encinas Hospital has received this recognition.
"Our hospital is committed to achieving the highest status in the accreditation process. We place a great value on positive patient outcomes," states Jerry Conway, CEO of Las Encinas Hospital. Conway adds, "We owe our achievements to all of our dedicated patient care staff for their commitment to our clients and families, as well as the clinical management team for their attention to detail in upholding the highest standards of care."
"Each year, the quality standards' bar has been raised and hospitals have responded to the challenge," says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and CEO, The Joint Commission. "We applaud their commitment to deliver the right treatment, in the right way, at the right time for patients. We also look forward to continuing to work together to accelerate further health care improvement."
The Joint Commission report recognizes hospitals for "their exemplary performance in providing evidence-based interventions in the right manner on a consistent basis." Psychiatric hospital rankings were based on the measures related to patient assessment, patients' safety and discharge/continuing care planning.
The Joint Commission is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization which accredits and certifies more than 20,000 health care programs in the United States. The Joint Commission works to support its accredited hospitals in improving health care quality performance.
