Laurie Goodman Transitions to Role of Special Advisor at Amherst Securities Group
AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Amherst Securities Group LP, a leading financial services provider to institutional investors in the mortgage sector, announced today that Laurie Goodman has decided to transition away from her day-to-day research and publishing efforts at Amherst to pursue public policy issues as head of the Housing Finance Policy Center at the Urban Institute. She will remain with Amherst as a Special Advisor to the Board as well as a significant shareholder in the company.
"Laurie's work on and passion for public policy issues impacting the housing market is well known, and her leadership in this area has always been an added benefit for Amherst and our clients," said Sean Dobson, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman at Amherst Securities. "We are extremely grateful to Laurie for all she has done to help build our RMBS franchise, and are pleased that she has agreed to remain with the company as a Special Advisor to the Board. We are fortunate too to have an extremely deep bench in this area and we will continue delivering market-leading strategy and advice to our clients."
Since joining Amherst in late 2008, Ms. Goodman has played an important role in building one of the leading RMBS (retail mortgage backed securities) businesses in the country.. Her exit as Head of RMBS strategy will create an opportunity for Amherst's efforts in that area to be more focused on the facilitating of day-to-day trading. As a result of this shift, Lidan Yang and Brian Landy will be directly reporting to the Non-agency and Agency MBS desks, respectively. They will be charged with producing materials for distribution both internally and externally on a more frequent basis with these materials significantly more focused on issues, market color, risks and opportunities which can produce trades.
"I have really enjoyed my time at Amherst and am proud of the outstanding business we have built there," said Ms. Goodman. "I look forward to staying involved with Amherst and continuing to work with the team there in my role as a special advisor while I pursue my passion for helping solve public policy issues related to housing finance through the new opportunity at the Urban Institute."
Likewise, Mr. Dobson will take on the additional responsibility of directing the company's macro-oriented property-related strategy efforts working in conjunction with Amherst's traders, strategists, developers and salespeople to provide clients insight into the RMBS and CMBS (commercial mortgage backed securities) markets generally.
