LC Technology Updates Solid State Doctor™ Utility Suite
Most Advanced SSD Utility Suite Now Extends Lifespan of SSD Drives, Preserves Usable Drive Space and Clones Data to New SSDs
CLEARWATER, Fla., Sept. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- LC Technology International, a leader in commercial and OEM data recovery, security and utility solutions, today released an updated version of Solid State Doctor™, a utility suite that optimizes the performance of solid state drives (SSDs). In addition to monitoring operation and preventing data loss, Solid State Doctor™ now improves the performance and lifespan of SSDs through overprovisioning, supports cloning from one SSD to another and offer TRIM support on both Windows 7 and 8.
Because SSDs have a limited and predictable lifespan, having an application that can forecast the usable lifespan is critical for preventing data loss. Solid State Doctor™ has provided this security by using Self-Monitoring Analysis and Report Technology (SMART), which continuously tracks read and write errors, temperature and other key metrics. Comprehensively, SMART tests can forecast a timeframe when an SSD will no longer be safe for data storage.
The update to Solid State Doctor™ has provided three critical enhancements over the original version:
- Overprovisioning: Solid State Doctor™ now extends the life of SSDs by allocating a portion of total flash memory to the flash storage processor for optimal memory management functions. This enhances both the performance and lifespan of the SSD.
- Cloning: Users can now use Solid State Doctor™ to clone an entire SSD device. As an SSD nears the end of its lifespan, this allows the owner to quickly copy all data to a new SSD without any loss of productivity or information.
- TRIM Support for Windows 8: Solid State Doctor™ TRIM support ensure that SSD drives are able to write new data to storage spaces where data has been deleted. Users can schedule TRIM to run automatically and thereby preserve valuable disc space.
Users can also return their SSD to a raw state using Solid State Doctors™ Secure Wiping capability, while Drive Self-Tests allow owners to take advantage of the manufacturer's diagnostics tests, which are built into the device but typically unavailable to consumers.
"Computers users now overwhelmingly prefer SSD drives to standard hard disk drives (HDDs) because they boot rapidly, launch applications instantaneously and generally provide snappier performance," said David Zimmerman, president of LC Technology. "However, SSD storage space and lifespans are inferior to HDDs, so our goal with Solid State Doctor and this update in particular is to help consumer get the most out of their SSD and prevent data loss."
Solid State Doctor™ is available on Windows 7, Windows 8, and pre-Windows 7 environments as a commercial or OEM solution. To learn more, visit www.lc-tech.com/pc/solid-state-doctor/.
