Leading investment sales team joins Avison Young in Washington, DC
Chip Ryan, Jim Kornick and Matt Clinebell become Principals;
team to grow Avison Young's capital-markets business in U.S. Capital Region
WASHINGTON, DC, Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ - Keith Lipton, Avison Young Principal and Managing Director of the company's Washington, DC region, announced today that industry veteran Chip Ryan and his leading investment sales team have joined Avison Young to further expand the firm's capital-markets business in the U.S. Capital Region.
Effective immediately, Ryan, Jim Kornick and Matt Clinebell join Avison Young as Principals; Adam Roffman joins as a Vice-President; and Cody Wilder as Marketing Coordinator.
The team will be based in the company's Washington, DC office. All five members were most recently with NorthMarq Capital in Washington, DC.
Ryan, Kornick and Clinebell bring sales, acquisition and financing capabilities to Avison Young's growing presence in the region. Past and current clients include Clarion Partners, TA Associates, First Potomac, BPG, RREEF, Guardian Realty Investors and numerous local developers/owners. The team's notable transaction list includes Doctors Community Hospital, Westwood Office, Verizon's Ashburn Campus, 1150 18th Street, N.W., and MetroPark. The group is also the dominant medical-office-building sales team in the Washington/Baltimore region.

Biographies
Chip Ryan
Prior to joining Avison Young, Chip Ryan served as an Executive Managing Director, guiding the Washington, DC office, for the NorthMarq Investment Sales group. He has more than 25 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry as a broker, developer, investor and owner of investment properties and commercial real estate service companies. He has participated in the acquisition, development, financing, leasing and sale of institutional real estate, including office buildings, industrial centers and commercial land with an investment value exceeding $5 billion. The Greater Washington Council of Commercial Brokers (GWCAR) has annually recognized him as a leading commercial investment salesperson.
Prior to NorthMarq, Ryan was a partner in Barnes Morris Pardoe & Foster, a highly respected Washington, DC-based brokerage company that was acquired by Insignia/ESG (now CBRE). He directed the Virginia office for nine years and was among the top producers every year, representing institutions and investors in acquisitions and dispositions.
From 1986 to 1992, Ryan was President of Cambridge Development Company. There, he specialized in land acquisition, project development, financing, leasing and investment sales. He directed the land acquisition for 18 Cambridge project sites and developed more than 2.5 million square feet (msf) of industrial and suburban office properties.
Prior to Cambridge, Ryan was a broker at CB Commercial Real Estate Services (CBRE). In this role, he specialized in industrial and office building sales and leasing. During his seven years with CB Commercial, he received many honors, including the Top Salesman Award for the Washington Suburban Area, Top Industrial Broker for the Region, and Top 20 Salesmen for CB Commercial in the nation. Over the years, Ryan has held memberships with the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and Society of Office and Industrial Realtors (SIOR). He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the Choate School.
James (Jim) Kornick
Jim Kornick has more than 25 years of real estate industry experience as a broker, developer and investor. As Managing Director at NorthMarq, he focused on providing investment services for office and medical-office properties. Prior to joining NorthMarq, Kornick was an investment broker in the Mid-Atlantic region with two different national real estate service companies, establishing himself as a leader in the sale of investment real estate. He won numerous sales awards, including Top 20 Salesman in the nation. His exceptional understanding of local land use regulatory processes was derived from his tenure as Executive Director of a Fairfax County, VA economic development corporation and five years as assistant to a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
Kornick often serves as a speaker at events held by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), NAIOP and other national and local real estate organizations. He is a member of Northern Virginia and DC/Maryland NAIOP as well as the Healthcare Real Estate Insights Editorial Advisory Board. In the community, he is active with the Alexandria Carpenter's Shelter and is a board member of the Northern Virginia Democratic Business Council and Past-President of Alexandria Country Day School.
Kornick obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University in Maryland with a concentration in economics and has also done graduate work at George Washington University.
Matt Clinebell
Matt Clinebell, formerly a Vice-President at NorthMarq Investment Services, has many years of experience in the commercial real estate industry, six of which were spent as an investment sales broker. Prior to joining NorthMarq, he spent three years at Marcus & Millichap where he focused on office investment sales in the Washington, DC region and medical-office-building sales nationally. In this short period of time, he earned the respect of clients and peers alike by selling more than 2 msf of office, industrial and medical office space. Before beginning his career in the brokerage business, he was an analyst for CoStar.
Clinebell is a member the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and NAIOP. He obtained his Masters degree in real estate, with a concentration in capital markets, from Johns Hopkins University. He remains active with its alumni network, having served as co-Chair of the Carey Business School Real Estate Forum for two years. He currently serves on the District of Columbia Building Industry Association's (DCBIA) Leaders in Development Executive Committee. Clinebell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in management science and information systems from Pennsylvania State University.
Adam Roffman
Prior to joining Avison Young, Adam Roffman served as Vice-President at NorthMarq, providing investment sales services to institutional and middle-market clients and directing the analytical team. Before joining NorthMarq in 2008, Roffman was an Associate with the New York Investment Banking arm of Bank of America where he focused on CDO structures and strategy. He previously spent a number of years at Fidelity Investments as a trader of Nasdaq Equities.
Roffman holds an MBA, with a concentration in finance, from New York University's Stern School of Business as well as a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Duke University.
Cody Wilder
Prior to joining Avison Young, Cody Wilder was the marketing coordinator at NorthMarq Investment Sales for the Washington, DC office. At NorthMarq, Wilder was responsible for the design and implementation of marketing materials and online communication, market research and database management; and provided day-to-day administrative support to the investment sales team.
Prior to joining NorthMarq, Wilder gained five years of marketing experience at the Newport News, VA-based North American headquarters of Liebherr Construction Equipment. While at Liebherr, Wilder designed national advertising campaigns and was part of a team responsible for organizing training events and trade exhibition participation. Wilder holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Virginia Tech and is the founder and owner of an online message forum with 200,000-plus monthly visitors.
