Leading LGBT Organization Celebrates 21st Anniversary
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SafeGuards LGBT Health Resource Center is hosting its 21st anniversary celebration on Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Hamilton Hall at the University of the Arts (320 S. Broad, Philadelphia).
SafeGuards Board Chair Soda Nobuhle said, "We are coming together to celebrate and pay tribute to the important innovative work that SafeGuards has contributed to the community over the past two decades."
The SafeGuards event will feature an "American Idol" LGBTQ youth talent competition featuring performances by the top four finalists. Brian M. Green, SafeGuards Executive Director declared that, "Our approach to our 21st Anniversary event is to focus on our future. We want to build leadership among the next generation and this is why we are putting LGBTQ youth center-stage at this wonderful event."
SafeGuards receives local and Federal funding for its HIV prevention work; its LGBTQ youth, transgender, and women's health initiatives are solely funded by private fundraising efforts. "Our anniversary celebration is going to be fabulous but it is also necessary so that we can continue the important work we do throughout our community", said Desiree Hines, SafeGuards Board member.
