League of Michigan Bicyclists Recognizes Tour de Troit with Prestigious Community Support for Bicycling Award
LANSING, Mich., May 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tour de Troit was presented with the prestigious Community Support for Bicycling Award by the League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) today in Lansing during 2014 Lucinda Means Bicycle Advocacy Day.
"We are so thrilled to be recognized by this statewide organization for our localized advocacy efforts," said Kelli Kavanaugh, Co-Director, Tour de Troit. "It's really important for us to be 'more than a bike ride' by helping to grow cycling in Detroit through not just event participation, but by supporting the growth of the city's non-motorized infrastructure."
Tour de Troit holds six cycling events throughout the year that help raise funds to support programming and development of various greenways and non-motorized transit initiatives throughout the city of Detroit. Recognized as Michigan's largest bike ride by the League of Michigan Bicyclists, the Tour de Troit ride boasted over 6,500 riders last year, and is expected to grow even larger this year.
Past winners of this esteemed award include individuals as well as organizations that have all helped the cycling community through their efforts to promote bicycle safety and education in their community.
LMB is a statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to promote bicycling and the safety of bicyclists on the roadways in Michigan. To learn more, visit www.lmb.org.
