BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Learning Lab of Brentwood will present Parenting the Elementary Age Child on Tuesday January 26 from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Williamson County Library in Franklin. It is the first of four seminars for parents, educators and medical professionals that focus on important issues of child development and education. These free seminars are hosted by the Williamson County Parent Resource Center.

"Raising a child is an awesome responsibility," said Pat Elkins, Director of The Learning Lab of Brentwood. "And many parents deeply appreciate all the help they can get.

"Parenting the Elementary Age Child can help parents recognize not only some of the hidden problems and special needs their children may have, but also some of the golden opportunities available to effectively address these issues," Elkins added.

The seminar will highlight ways for parents to encourage thinking skills, as well as improve reading, math, language and writing skills at home. It will also suggest why, when and how to reach out to learning and medical specialists for additional assistance.

"Part of being a good parent is knowing when your child has a problem or a need that is beyond your ability to deal with alone," Elkins stated.

Presenters will also demonstrate a variety of high-quality, Web-based parenting and educational resources.

"Of course, there's a vast wealth of powerful and practical information available to parents on the Internet," Elkins said. "We've evaluated dozens of no-cost or low-cost websites, and those we recommend can give parents a clear advantage in understanding, parenting and educating their elementary school children."

To register and/or obtain additional information, call (615) 472-5018 or 472-5013. Anyone planning to attend the seminar can email questions about parenting the elementary age child to Ms. Elkins at pelkins@mylearnlab.com.
