The six-pattern collection explores the lasting impressions of place through light, movement, texture and memory.
LA MIRADA, Calif., Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Leftbank Art introduces afterImage, a new wallcovering collection created in collaboration with NXN Studio, the West Palm Beach-based interior design practice founded by Holly Nixon. Exploring the relationship between place, perception and memory, the six-pattern collection translates fleeting impressions of light, movement and landscape into abstract surface designs for hospitality and residential interiors. afterImage will debut at BDNY, November 8–9, at Leftbank Art's Booth 2243.
The concept behind afterImage began with a simple observation: the places that stay with us are not always remembered through a particular view or image, but through fragments of sensory experience. The quality of light. The movement of shadows. A texture, a scent, an atmosphere. These impressions linger, becoming part of how we remember a place long after we've left it.
"Places have always had a very profound effect on me. When I think about the places that have shaped my life, the places I've lived and worked and travelled, I've come to realize that what stays with me isn't necessarily a particular view or a recognizable image," says NXN Studio Founder and Principal Holly Nixon. "It's often something less tangible: the quality of light, the movement of shadows, a texture, a scent, or simply how a place made me feel. afterImage grew from the idea of exploring those fragments of memory and translating them into something new."
While nature is present throughout afterImage, the collection deliberately avoids literal botanical representation. Leaves become geometry. Shadows become pattern. Weathering becomes texture. Memories of landscapes become abstract compositions, open to individual interpretation.
The result is six distinct patterns: Trace, Shimmer, Dapple, Veil, Canopy and Patina.
- Trace - Ghosted forms and softened shadows move across textured grounds, suggesting the fleeting imprint of foliage, light, and landscape. Familiar but indistinct, the pattern feels like a memory that remains after the moment has passed.
- Shimmer - Inspired by sunlight flickering through eucalyptus leaves and glistening across water, its shifting rhythm captures the energy of reflected light - fragmented, luminous and constantly changing.
- Dapple - Light and shadow break across the surface in an irregular rhythm, creating moments of contrast, softness, and movement. Organic without becoming botanical, Dapple is inspired by the unexpected compositions that appear when nature interrupts architecture - softening edges, obscuring boundaries and transforming familiar surfaces.
- Veil - Fluid lines drift across one another, emerging and receding within translucent layers. Forms feel familiar but remain unresolved. Soft, atmospheric, and elusive, Veil captures the space between what is seen and what is imagined.
- Canopy - Abstracted botanical forms shift in scale, overlap and disappear into one another, moving between moments of density and openness. Familiar fragments emerge and recede, suggesting foliage without depicting it literally. Bold in scale and rich in depth, Canopy captures the sensation of being immersed rather than simply looking in.
- Patina - Layers of tone and texture build, erode and merge into one another, drawing from surfaces transformed by weather, exposure and age. Individual references become indistinct, leaving behind something familiar but impossible to place. Quiet and richly layered, Patina brings depth and history to the surface - a record of accumulation, change, and time.
The collection is presented in five curated color families, each developed across three tonal variations. Understory explores layered, earthy greens; Halo introduces soft, luminous neutrals; Firelight draws from the warmth of clay and terracotta; Refraction captures atmospheric blues; and Afterglow moves through muted mauves and deep plums. Together, the palettes allow each pattern to take on a different mood, from quiet and understated to richly expressive.
A surprise colorway and wildcard variants will also be available.
Rooted in Nixon's extensive experience designing hospitality environments, afterImage reflects an approach to design that considers not only how spaces look, but how they are experienced and remembered. The collection brings that same sensibility to wallcoverings, using abstraction, layering and scale to create surfaces that contribute to the atmosphere of an interior without prescribing a singular interpretation.
afterImage will debut at BDNY, November 8–9, at the Javits Center in New York. See the collection installed at full scale inside Leftbank Art's Midnight Sessions House at Booth 2243. Meet Holly in person on Sunday, November 8, from 3:00–4:00 p.m. ET for a hosted walk-through and a conversation about your hospitality projects. Designers can specify, order and request samples at BDNY.
