Legendary Georgia coach Vince Dooley, Heisman winner George Rogers, 11 Alive's Jeff Hullinger headline ProstAware's Blue Ties
ATLANTA, Aug. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary University of Georgia football coach Vince Dooley will deliver the keynote address, Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers will make a special appearance and 11 Alive's Jeff Hullinger will serve as emcee at ProstAware's eighth annual Blue Ties luncheon on Sept. 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead.
ProstAware is a nonprofit devoted to raising awareness about prostate cancer through the dynamic worlds of music, technology and sports. In 2015, Blue Ties raised $50,000, which aided ProstAware's year-round educational programming.
Dr. Scott Miller, the founder of ProstAware and a robotic prostate surgeon with Georgia Urology, has been a crusader against prostate cancer, the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). In 2016, more than 180,000 new cases will be diagnosed in the United States, ACS estimates.
"Prostate cancer has the highest incidence rate of all cancers in the state of Georgia," Dr. Miller said. "Our mission is to bring attention to this reality and we hope that having Coach Dooley as our speaker can help to accomplish that."
Dooley won 201 games between 1964 and 1988 at Georgia and is best known for guiding the Bulldogs to the 1980 national title. He was twice named national coach of the year and seven times earned Southeastern Conference coach of the year honors. He served as Georgia's athletic director for 15 years after retiring as football coach.
Hullinger, who co-anchors WXIA-TV's 5, 6 and 11 p.m. weeknight news broadcasts, formerly served as Atlanta Falcons' radio play-by-play broadcaster and as sports anchor at WAGA-TV for 18 years.
