Lemonade Stand Sales Plummet; First Graders Now Developing iPhone® Apps
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, Aug. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- While some 7-year-olds open a lemonade stand, Connor Zamary of Youngstown, Ohio made the most of his summer vacation by designing and launching an app for the iPhone® and iPod touch®. Toaster Pop, now available on the Apple® App Store, is a bright and colorful game where players spread butter, jam, and other toppings on toast - one of Connor's favorite breakfast foods. The game is not only fun, but it is a very family friendly app.

Connor noticed that lots of kids use the iPod touch and their parents' iPhones, and thought that they needed a fun and safe game.
"I hope lots of people enjoy my app," Connor said. "It's a lot of fun." Added Craig Zamary, Connor's dad, "With kids constantly 'borrowing' our devices, it's nice to know there is a truly kid-friendly game for them to play."
This entrepreneurial energy runs in the family. Even though Craig, an Entrepreneur in Residence at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, has overseen his work, Connor has full control of his company and app. On his own, he completed the proper legal steps to form his limited liability corporation, created and pitched his own presentation to investors and selected an app developer based on written proposals - all while being 7 years old. The only aspect he doesn't control is his e-mail. Family rules dictate Connor is not allowed to have his own e-mail account until he's much older. He responds to company correspondence using his father's e-mail account, but signs his own name.
"This has been an amazing project to watch," said Jim Cossler, Chief Evangelist of the Youngstown Business Incubator. "When we were kids with our lemonade stands, we got excited when we got a customer from the next street. In Connor's first few days of sales, he had customers from the U.S., Malaysia, Indonesia, and Kuwait."
Now that the app is available for download, Connor's next step is to enter second grade at South Range Elementary, a small public school in North Lima, Ohio, in the fall. Version 2.0 of Toaster Pop has been mapped out on the family's refrigerator, and will include the elusive Golden Toast.
