Less Talk, More Action: Ken Lanci Asks Federal Court to Block County Commissioners From Making Deals
CLEVELAND, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Independent County Executive candidate Ken Lanci has filed a lawsuit on behalf of himself as a taxpayer and the citizens of Cuyahoga County (case number 1:10-cd-01765-CAB). Lanci asked the federal court to stop the commissioners and auditor from entering into any long term contracts or obligations.
One of Lanci's main concerns is the possible sale of the AmeriTrust Tower. The lawsuit states that if the building is sold at a potential loss of $18 million it will cause irreparable harm to the citizens of Cuyahoga County.
"In business we have a saying that either you're an innovator, a caretaker or an undertaker. Those in power have proven they are not innovators. We certainly don't want them to be undertakers," says Lanci. "I am asking the courts to make them take on the role of caretakers until the new government takes office in January."
Lanci is also concerned that county leaders who are under investigation are continuing to make deals which would help their friends but harm the taxpayers.
"Democratic party chair Stu Garson has asked for Jimmy Dimora and Frank Russo to resign. If they were to resign, Garson could appoint replacements who would still have the power to make deals," said Lanci. "It's smoke and mirrors. We need to stop talking and take action on behalf of the citizens of Cuyahoga County. Enough is enough! This injunction would stop the commissioners and auditor from further hurting the taxpayers."
