Lester A. Lefton, Kent State University President, Joins Flashnotes.com's Board Of Directors
Flashnotes.com Also Announces New Academic Advisory Board to Further Its Commitment to Working With the Top Educators & Administrators in Higher Education
BOSTON, April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Flashnotes.com, the student-to-student study materials marketplace, announced that Lester A. Lefton has joined the company's board of directors. The appointment comes just prior to Lefton's planned retirement from Kent State University, where he has served as president for eight years. Lefton joins Flashnotes.com on the heels of a $3.6 million Series A funding round for the startup, which is working to expand its presence at colleges and universities across the country. Lefton will support Flashnotes.com's commitment to working directly with academic institutions as it seeks to provide college students with two things they need most - more money and better grades.
"We are so privileged to have one of the country's top administrators join our board, and this appointment also has special meaning for me personally as a Kent State University alum," said Michael Matousek, founder & CEO of Flashnotes.com. "Lester brings over 30 years of higher education experience to the table, and his leadership will be instrumental in ensuring our platform meets the standards of academic integrity that professors and administrators expect from a student-to-student learning platform."
At Flashnotes.com, college students can sell and buy course-specific study materials -- study guides, notes, flashcards, video tutorials, and live video help. Its Pays2Study™ approach empowers smart college students to make money from their own study material while helping other students study smarter to get better grades. The site saw a 175% growth in users in 2013 and is rapidly expanding at colleges and universities across the U.S.
"I am honored to join the Flashnotes.com board of directors and to work alongside such a talented and ambitious Kent State alumnus," said Lester A. Lefton. "Flashnotes.com is emerging as a leading force in helping to reshape higher education and has the potential to create real change by helping students to learn from one another – and to succeed academically as well as financially."
In tandem with the appointment of Lester Lefton to its board, Flashnotes.com also announced the formation of an Academic Advisory Board with seven new members. The advisory board will be focused on finding new and innovative ways for today's college students to collaborate with one another and to facilitate change in higher education through peer-learning. Some of the founding members of the Flashnotes.com Academic Advisory Board are as follows, and the company is looking to add additional members throughout 2014:
- Krystie Herndon - Undergraduate Advisor
- Ann Wolf - Professor
- Kimberlyn Brooks - Associate Dean
- Ian Schonberg - Graduate Academic Advisor
- Terri Stibaner - Academic Accommodation Specialist
