NEW YORK, April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Executive Summary
Like many aspects of the telecom industry, the service assurance sector is undergoing profound change. This report is the third in a series of reports reflecting those changes. Driven by both opportunity and competition, communications service providers (CSPs) are looking ahead to prepare for a very different future organizationally, operationally, technically and, perhaps most of all, with regards to their service portfolios.
The door to opportunity has been opened by data—lots of it. How adept CSPs are in collecting, correlating, and analyzing the data, and sharing the intelligence derived from it, will determine a CSP's ability to meet this future. The task of supporting CSPs in this effort has historically fallen to suppliers of both test systems and service assurance solutions. This report looks at how the aspirations, priorities and strategies of these suppliers differ from those they held just three years ago; and notes that suppliers have begun to come together to better enable the exploitation of the opportunity before them and their CSP customers.
Stratecast continues to follow the money trail in service assurance to see how supplier strategies are playing out in this space. This report shows that much of the money, through acquisition, is going to three efforts: (1) extending test technologies to the full service lifecycle; and, in the process, attempting to redefine service assurance; (2) combining test and assurance technologies into platform solutions; (3) unifying the sources of network, control and user data, in order to generate a more complete picture of the user experience.
Acquisition has been rampant in the service assurance space for the last several years, and Stratecast expects that to continue. This report examines how the latest spate of acquisitions differs from those from three years ago. In a separate section, it looks at the strategies of some of the suppliers making those acquisitions, as well as some that have gone the other route and remained focused on internal development. Also in this report, is a brief look at DevOps and how companies are utilizing its best practices to reach their goals more quickly.
