Lexus of Richmond 15th Annual Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award
RICHMOND, Va., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- An educated, vibrant population keeps our country strong. Recognizing this fact, Lexus of Richmond has once again committed to participate in an educational scholarship program for the 15th Annual Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award.
A $10,000 Scholarship will be awarded to one of 30 local nominees. Every week during the school year, Lexus of Richmond recognizes one outstanding high school senior scholar-athlete. These are students who have demonstrated outstanding achievements and hard work in the classroom, in the community and on the field. These candidates were nominated by a school principal, guidance counselor or coach. Each student is interviewed live at 8:20 AM on Wednesday morning on WRVA 1140. After that, the nominee is interviewed by Fox 35 Richmond and those interviews appear on the Sunday 10 PM news.
George W. Whitlow, President of Lexus of Richmond, said, "Each year we see these nominees strive to achieve not only academic excellence, but active engagement in their communities and a sincere effort to improve the situation of our neighbors impacted by the many events of the last few years." Mr. Whitlow continued, "This year's candidates are involved in a broad range of community and charitable activities that range from Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army Christmas Angel Project to gathering clothing for Haitian families."
In addition to the radio and television interviews, the nominees are featured monthly in Richmond Magazine. Using social media to draw attention to the Scholarship Program, Lexus of Richmond established a Facebook page where a photo and background information appears for each scholarship candidate. Starting on April 28th Facebook friends can vote for their favorite candidate. Voting ends on midnight Monday, May 10th, 2010. The winner of the Facebook voting will be awarded an Apple iPad at the Awards Banquet.
The annual banquet will be held on May 13th, 2010 at The Mill at Fine Creek, in Fine Creek, Virginia. The speaker this year will be William "Bill" Mims, Virginia Supreme Court Justice. He is Virginia's 100th justice, and served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1992-98 and in the Senate of Virginia from 1998-2006.
