LG Electronics Enters High-Efficiency Top-Load Laundry Category With Wave(TM) Series

NEW YORK, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- With the introduction of the Wave™ Series laundry pairs, LG Electronics, already the market leader in total high-efficiency laundry, has now extended its energy-efficient laundry line-up with its first top-load washers in the United States.

Building on the success of LG's popular front-load high-efficiency laundry products, LG Electronics now addresses the needs of those who prefer top-loaders, too, offering a complete line-up of high-efficiency laundry solutions to help consumers take better care of their families and homes. The Wave Series features cleaning innovations that are gentler on fabrics and LG's unique ColdWash™ option that combines the washing performance of warm water with the energy savings of cold water.

Traditional agitators in top-load washers are known for being rough on clothing; however, LG's innovative WaveForce™ technology eliminates the agitator and moves the water in the tub so that it continuously penetrates fabrics with high-speed spinning for a thorough, gentle clean. These cleaning motions are made possible by LG's Direct Drive motor, which operates without belts or pulleys, delivering power directly from the motor to the drum. This system results in increased efficiency, reduced noise and vibration, and a longer lifetime, supported by a 10-year limited warranty.

The ColdWash feature uses up to 51 percent less energy by using cold water to penetrate deep into fabrics, providing consumers with the same washing performance as washing in warm water. The LG SmartRinse™ Jet Spray System has a rinsing system that uses water more efficiently for enhanced cleaning efficacy. Like all LG laundry systems, the Wave Series is Energy-Star rated and uses up to 40 percent less water than conventional top-load machines.

The Wave Series also makes doing laundry easier and faster, so that consumers can spend less time on household chores. The LG Wash/Rinse Optimizer™ automatically senses water hardness and detergent level and then adjusts the cycle length to maximize performance. With the largest capacity of any top-loader (5.2 cubic feet per accepted industry measurement), the Wave Series washer saves time by cleaning more laundry in fewer loads, while EasyDispense™ takes the guesswork out of doing laundry by allowing consumers to pour in detergent, bleach and fabric softener at the same time. And with thoughtful innovations like the LG SlamProof™ Lid, consumers no longer have to worry about loud banging noises or having a child catch their fingers in the door.

The Wave Series dryers also include a number of convenient innovations that help consumers take better care of their home and families. The 7.3 cubic-foot capacity dryer features LG TrueSteam™ technology to reduce wrinkles and odors, and virtually eliminates the need for ironing.* Clothes can receive a quick refresh in only 20 minutes with the LG SteamFresh™ cycle, and pillows and stuffed animals can be safely sanitized in the dryer with the LG SteamSanitary™ cycle.

Models are available in White and Graphite Steel finishes at manufacturer's suggested retail prices ranging from $899 to $1,099 for the washer (Model WT5101, WT5001) and $899 to $1,169 for the dryer (Electric Model DLE5001, DLEX5101 and Gas Model DLG5002, DLGX5102).** The products will be available at retail early in the second quarter of 2010.
