SAN DIEGO, July 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Mobile USA and Cartoon Network today announced a partnership to help prevent bullying in communities across the nation. Kicking off the partnership on August 8 at this year's LG U.S. National Texting Championship, the sixth annual LG event that awards a $50,000 cash prize to the texter with the quickest thumbs, a special "Text for the Cause" round will encourage people across the country to pledge their support for Cartoon Network's Stop Bullying: Speak Up™ campaign by texting "Join LG" to 27777. *With every text pledge (standard texting rates apply), LG will give $1 to fund the network's on-going distribution of bullying prevention toolkits for middle schools and high schools across the U.S. that help inform teachers and students about bullying prevention.
According to research, 85 percent of youth said they would speak up against bullying if given the right tools. In partnering with Cartoon Network to help create and distribute additional Stop Bullying: Speak Up toolkits, LG is continuing its bullying prevention efforts, which began in 2010 with the launch of the LG Text Education Campaign. Designed to provide parents with the know-how and resources to promote responsible mobile phone usage among their text-savvy children, LG Text Education Campaign included a council of advisory experts, an interactive website, and a series of entertaining and educational viral videos featuring reformed texting-and-driving offender and actress Jane Lynch.
"As a committed corporate citizen, LG is partnering with Cartoon Network to support anti-bullying efforts and help inform teens and pre-teens about the importance of treating all people with respect," said James Fishler, senior vice president of marketing and go-to-market operations, LG Electronics USA. "By asking our audience to take a stand against all forms of bullying, including those that are becoming more prevalent in the digital space, we hope to raise awareness for the tools and steps available to all of us to help stop bullying in its tracks."
"Since we launched Stop Bullying: Speak Up in 2010, it has been one of our goals to continue to make sure every school has access to the proper tools and resources needed to help kids and adults speak up against bullying," said Alice Cahn, Vice President of Social Responsibility, Cartoon Network. "We are extremely grateful to have LG join us in this effort and look forward to having even more people show their support against bullying through their national texting championship.
Serving as the voice for the LG "Text for the Cause" round, teen expert and anti-bullying specialist Rosalind Wiseman will rally attendees to pledge their support for this important cause by texting "Join LG" to 27777. Together with LG and Cartoon Network, Wiseman will ask attendees to speak up against bullying by:
- Telling an adult you trust, so they can step in and the stop the bullying
- Being supportive to the people who were bullied and letting them know it's not their fault
- Getting involved with my school or community prevention program and encouraging everyone to speak up
Cartoon Network's Stop Bullying: Speak Up™ campaign provides bullying prevention resources for both students and educators. Using a three-pronged approach that encourages students to report bullying to an adult, support those who have been bullied, and get involved with school prevention programs, Stop Bullying: Speak Up™ empowers youth to take action against bullying.
