• Sugars. Sugars can make a milder, more easily inhaled smoke, but they also generate aldehydes which boost the addictive potency.
  
• Ammonia. By changing the structure of the nicotine molecules to a "free-base" state, it makes the nicotine more addictive.
  
• Cocoa. Often added for flavor, it also dilates the lungs in large quantities making the lungs more receptive to smoke.
