LifeSecure Insurance Teams Up With Meals on Wheels to Support 'Miles for Meals' Benefit Race

BRIGHTON, Mich., May 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- LifeSecure Insurance Company has partnered with the Livingston County Senior Nutrition Program to enhance their efforts to support local seniors and the Meals on Wheels program, which serves seniors in Livingston, Washtenaw and Oakland counties. The two groups are encouraging residents to "outrun hunger one meal at a time" at the 5th Annual Miles for Meals 5k and 10k run and 5k walk on Saturday, June 2.

Miles for Meals will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, at Kensington Metropark in Milford. It offers a family friendly experience where guests can spend the day enjoying the wildlife and natural resources at beautiful Kensington Metropark.

It will also feature special guest Dr. Marion Somers, an award-winning elder care expert and national spokesperson for the nonprofit 3in4 Association long-term care awareness campaign, who will discuss long-term care planning, caregiving and elder care issues.

Meals on Wheels provides about 300,000 home-cooked meals each year to seniors in surrounding communities. The nutritionally balanced meals enable homebound seniors to maintain their independence and socialize with others. Program volunteers also serve as an important safety net for seniors should they become injured or find themselves in an emergency. Miles for Meals is the program's largest fundraising event. Every dollar raised directly benefits Meals on Wheels. Due to recent economic challenges, fundraising is even more vital to the program's ability to support seniors.
