The American Cancer Society will introduce the 2025 Relay For Life of Conejo Valley on Saturday, September 27, from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm at the California Lutheran University Memorial Field in Thousand Oaks. This year, the American Cancer Society is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Relay For Life as a global movement- honoring survivors, remembering loved ones lost, and showcasing the last 40 Years of Impact in the fight against cancer.
"I'm beyond excited to welcome Lindsey Carnett, CEO of Marketing Maven, as our very first Executive Ambassador for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Conejo Valley," said Abby Smith, Senior Development Manager, American Cancer Society. "Lindsey and her team have been unwavering supporters of Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society for the past two years, and their commitment to our mission has been nothing short of inspiring. As an Executive Ambassador, Lindsey will serve as a visible champion for the mission of the American Cancer Society—leveraging her personal and professional networks to raise critical funds, promote awareness, and help us build lasting partnerships to ultimately save more lives from cancer. Our Executive Ambassador program provides the opportunity for community leaders who want to make a tangible impact in the fight against cancer, and we know Lindsey's leadership will inspire others to join us in this movement to end cancer as we know it, for everyone."
Carnett is a long-time resident of Southern California. Marketing Maven is a bicoastal, full-service marketing and communications agency. It specializes in market research, digital advertising, public relations and social media management and leads the industry in utilizing advanced metrics to measure their clients' marketing reach and providing competitive analysis unparalleled in the industry.
"I am honored to have been chosen as the first Executive Ambassador for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Conejo Valley," said Carnett. "It means so much to me because I have witnessed the advancements in cancer treatments throughout the years via friends and family. Everyone knows someone who is affected by cancer. I have lost family members, dear friends and business colleagues to cancer. However, I know plenty of others who are survivors. They have a village supporting them and receive resources via American Cancer Society. I just attended a breast health symposium and learned about new treatments from top doctors. I am so impressed by the local American Cancer Society staff and the relationships they've built with local hospitals to support positive patient outcomes and support them before, during and after their fight against cancer. I feel fortunate to be in a position to help drive awareness and participation for this very worthy cause, especially surrounding the 40-year anniversary of Relay For Life and especially at the campus of my alma matter, California Lutheran University, walking on the field I trained on when I played soccer there."
This year Relay For Life of Conejo Valley will be kicking things off with a non-competitive 5.0K fun run, followed by a walk in which teams register to have a representative on the track for the full 12-hour event. The teams can also host fundraising games at their booths, including silent auctions to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
More than just a walk, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life brings together passionate supporters who embody the American Cancer Society vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.
Relay For Life is all about celebrating cancer survivors, remembering loved ones lost, and fighting back against cancer by raising funds for American Cancer Society research and patient support programs.
Throughout the day, teams will host fundraiser games and activities for all ages, local bands will play a variety of music, and food will be available for a donation to the American Cancer Society.
Please sign up and/or donate today at www.RelayForLife.org/ConejoValleyCA. Attending Relay For Life is always free. About The American Cancer Society Relay For Life
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is more than just a walk. It's an opportunity to be part of a global community of passionate supporters who want to help end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Our Relay For Life Hall of Fame honors the visionary leaders who have helped to grow our Relay community into one of the largest fundraising events in the world.
The Global Relay For Life movement started because of one person. In May 1985, Dr. Gordon "Gordy" Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, USA, raising money to help the American Cancer Society with the nation's biggest health concern: cancer.
Friends, family, and patients watched and supported him as he walked and ran more than 83.6 miles and raised $27,000 through pledges to help save lives from cancer. As he circled the track, he thought of how he could get others to take part. He envisioned having teams participate in a 24-hour fundraising event. The next year, 19 teams were part of the first Relay For Life event at the historical Stadium Bowl and raised $33,000.
Dr. Gordy's vision grew throughout the United States becoming the American Cancer Society's premier fundraising event. In only 10 years, Relay For Life started receiving attention across the world and the Global Relay For Life movement began. In 1997, the United Kingdom held the first ever Global Relay For Life in Portsmouth UK, supporting Cancer Research UK.
