Lineage Project Kicks Off Its Fundraising Season With 18 Grand Prizes And Events Benefiting NYC's Disenfranchised Youth
NEW YORK, May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lineage Project, a non-profit organization that teaches yoga and meditation techniques to at-risk, court-involved and incarcerated youth in detention centers, alternative-to-incarceration centers and suspension schools, kicks off their fundraising season on May 27, 2014 with an online raffle and several other events. Highlights will include a June 13th Intention setting ceremony at Laughing Lotus Yoga Center and culminates the weekend of June 19th at the Wanderlust Stratton Yoga festival in Vermont.
All fundraising efforts are spearheaded by author and ultimate yogi Emily Stone, who notes, "Our students range in age from 10 to 24 and come from 15 of the city's poorest neighborhoods. Lineage Project had a great 2013, mentoring over 1,750 at-risk youths once per week. Our fundraising goal this year is to raise that number of classes to twice a week for each student."
The money raised by Lineage Project directly impacts their students' lives, 75% of who have experienced post-traumatic stress disorder or have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused. Major successes include students from suspension high schools, who have gone on to college and count Lineage's classes as a critical stepping-stone in their journey.
