Living Well at the End of Life: The Pacific Northwest Experience
SEATTLE - JULY 6th
WASHINGTON, June 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- National Journal LIVE, in partnership with The Regence Foundation, announced today that it will host "Living Well at the End of Life: A National Conversation," in Seattle on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. This policy summit event is the second in a three-part National Journal/Regence Foundation survey series dedicated to exploring the approach Americans take to the complex issues and choices that surround the final phase of life.
The first survey in the series found that most Americans believe enhancing quality of life is more important than extending it at end-of-life. It also found that the overwhelming majority want a more open public dialogue about the issues and options surrounding end-of-life and palliative care. For the second installment in the "Living Well at the End of Life" survey series, National Journal and The Regence Foundation have focused on residents of Oregon and Washington State and how their views and approaches to end-of-life compare with Americans in other regions.
At the summit, National Journal editorial director Ron Brownstein and a panel of experts will discuss the unique end-of-life policies and programs in the Pacific Northwest, how those have affected the debate surrounding care at the end of life, and what the nation-at-large can learn from the region as conversations continue on the federal level.
"Living Well at the End of Life: A National Conversation" will take place from 8:00am to 10:30am on Wednesday, July 6, at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel (515 Madison Street). To RSVP for the event, please visit http://livingwellattheend.eventbrite.com.
Brownstein will also be available for media interviews on Tuesday, July 5. To schedule an interview, please contact Taylor West at [email protected].
Joining the partnership of National Journal LIVE and Regence is leading global insight and research firm FD.
The first survey in the series, tracking Americans' views on palliative care, was conducted and released at a Washington, D.C., policy summit event in March.
