Local Artist Thomas Davis Donates Painting To Clemson Football Coach Dabo Swinney
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., April 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas Davis, artist and owner of Collectors Café, Myrtle Beach, presented Clemson University head football coach Dabo Swinney with his original oil painting, Redemption, which now hangs in the newly opened Clemson Football Complex indoor practice facility on campus.
"As we all know, we didn't win in 2015, but it did encourage me to start a new painting of the Tigers," says Davis, a Clemson University alumnus. "My dad and I went to Tampa this January and watched history, as we beat Alabama to be a two-time national champion. And that's what the painting is about: Redemption."
Davis, an artist for the last 25 years, graduated from Clemson University with a degree in business, followed by training at the Art Institute of Atlanta. He and his dad witnessed Clemson's first national title at the championship game in Miami when Davis was a freshman in 1981. His goal today, he says, was to give back to his alma mater in some way; his donation of Redemption to the football program is a start.
"I thought it would be a great way to support Clemson and give Clemson fans some pride for the Tigers," says Davis. "I painted 'Clemson' on the back of the jerseys in the painting so it would remain timeless and because Dabo said, 'Let the light within you shine brighter than the light upon you.' I am proud to be a part of the Clemson family, and this is my chance to give back."
