ROCK HILL, S.C., Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A few blocks from the intersection of Dave Lyle Blvd and the US 21 Bypass sit two weathered buildings. Contractors, workers and inspectors flow in and out. The buildings are getting a much needed facelift from their new owner after sitting vacant for over a decade. Formerly home to an Ivax Corporation specialty chemical plant, the over 18,000 square foot facility housed office space, laboratories, warehouses, and chemical handling equipment. In December, 2012, Rock Hill based company Commercial Industrial Supply purchased the property for use as its new headquarters. Since then, the company has been working to fix up and outfit the space for its tentative February move-in date.
"It was a little eerie walking in the building for the first time," says Commercial Industrial Supply founder Ron Heisler. "The plant's chemical showers were still there and the lockers still had workers' names on them, but you could tell no one had set foot in there in a long time." A few months ago you may not have even noticed the buildings as you drove by. They were nearly completely covered with overgrowth. The facility has been vacant since 1998, when former owner Ivax Corporation shut down operation of the Rock Hill plant.
Commercial Industrial Supply will move from its current rented space off Springdale Road to the new facility this month. Since purchasing the facility in December, the company has been busy cleaning up, refitting warehouse space, and remodeling offices. When ready the space will include a sales office and housing for the company's pipe supply & pipe accessory inventory. It will be the first time the facility is occupied in approximately 15 years.
