Local Law Firm Invites Citizens to St. Charles County Red-Light Camera Ban Council Meeting This Monday

ST. CHARLES, Mo., May 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, St. Charles County Missouri Law Firm Carter Law Offices, LLC mailed thousands of letters to St. Charles County citizens and announced its support for St. Charles County Councilman Joe Brazil's proposal to place a red-light camera ban on the August 2014 ballot for voter approval.

Dear Fellow Citizens:

As a public service, I am writing to make you aware that the St. Charles County Council will be considering a bill to place on the ballot the issue of Red Light Cameras for the voters to decide. The proposed Charter Amendment is being sponsored by County Councilman Joe Brazil. St. Charles County citizens have consistently shown that they are more engaged when it comes to expressing their opinions on important issues, so I wanted you to be aware of this important meeting and vote.

The County Council meeting will be held on Monday, May 12 at 7 p.m. at 100 N. Third Street, St. Charles, MO 63301, if you would like to join me and others in expressing our views in person on the bill that would ban Red Light Cameras throughout the County. Our firm, and myself personally, have been fighting Red Light Cameras from the beginning as being an assault on civil liberties and privacy, as well as being dangerous, and a money grab by politicians.

The Red Light Camera vendor (Redflex) for St. Peters is under Federal Indictment for fraud, corruption, and bribery and is under investigation in 13 states. Courts have ruled against them, but they continue to operate while on appeal. Red Light Cameras have proven to be counter-productive to safety, as the rate of accidents and injuries have increased over 30% in St. Peters at the intersections where they are installed, according to the St. Peters Police Department's own statistics.

The City of St. Peters and camera vendors are behaving unconscionably and unethically by threatening transportation for the elderly and disabled if this goes to a vote of the people. However, these same services were being paid for before the city chose to install these money making machines. The City of St. Peters and ƚŚĞŝƌ allies are working to actively thwart the ability of St. Charles County voters to express their feelings on the issue and only the express will of the people can stop them.

In the past I have attended informational public meetings with Councilman Brazil to help focus attention on this issue. I have personally been able to convince some communities, like the City of Wentzville, to not go down the road of installing traffic cameras. With your help in the form of attending the County Council meeting, we can be successful in placing this issue on the ballot and allowing you and all the voters of St. Charles County the opportunity to vote on banning the use of Red Light Cameras throughout the county.
