Local Shopping Options Expand at University Village

Small Business Saturday encourages Seattleites to shop community businesses

SEATTLE, Nov. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- University Village today announced the addition of new local stores and restaurants for Seattle shoppers to support in celebration of Small Business Saturday on November 24.

Recently opened, the Seattle Team Shop is the ultimate sports fan mega-store, carrying an extensive selection of Seattle's professional sports team gear, as well as college fan favorites, all in one store.

Elemental Wood Fired Pizza, owned by Seattle restaurateurs Steve Rosen and James Allard, is a new family-friendly pizza haven serving up pies made in real stone ovens. Customers can watch as their pizza is tossed, assembled and cooked right before their eyes.

And, although their roots may hail from Vermont, Ibex is a new small business at U Village with a rapidly-growing local fan base. The store, only the second in the country, features year-round Merino wool outdoor clothing and cycling apparel made in the United States.

One more local small business is also popping-up this holiday season at University Village: Capitol Hill's NuBe Green. The store, known for its local, eco-friendly goods, opens a pop-up shop at U Village on November 23. This holiday season, 10 percent of purchases at NuBe Green's pop-up shop will benefit Washington Green Schools, a local organization that challenges students and school communities to create a sustainable region through educational experiences that transform school environments.

With more than 50 locally-owned small businesses at University Village including Mrs. Cook's, The Confectionery, Kid's Club, Market Optical, Fireworks, Mercer and more, the shopping center is a destination to kick-off holiday shopping while supporting local merchants.
