ALPHARETTA, Ga., Feb. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- LocumTenens.com announced today that Dr. Darius Maggi, a retired OBGYN from Denison, Texas, and Dr. Todd Crump, an emergency medicine physician with Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, S.C., have been selected from more than 150 nominated physicians as the company's second annual MedicalMissions.org Physicians of the Year for international and domestic service, respectively.

More than 150 physicians were nominated for the annual awards program that honors physicians who donate their time to help underserved people in the United States and abroad gain access to critically-needed healthcare services. As part of the award, LocumTenens.com will donate to the West Africa Fistula Foundation on behalf of Dr. Maggi and to the Free Medical Clinic of Columbia, S.C. on behalf of Dr. Crump.

Dr. Darius Maggi was selected for his work with female fistula patients in Bo, Sierra Leone, which began in 2002. Since then, he has made 39 trips to the country to help women suffering from a debilitating and painful gynecological condition that occurs after periods of long, obstructed childbirth because cesarean sections are unavailable. The women are usually shunned from their villages and families as a result of the condition, which makes them incontinent. Through the West Africa Fistula Foundation that Dr. Maggi founded in 2004, more than 1,500 women have been helped through corrective surgery, as well as giving them a place to prepare for surgery and recover. Dr. Todd Crump began volunteering with the Free Medical Clinic in Columbia, S.C. in 1997 while in medical school at the University of South Carolina. He regularly volunteers at the clinic which serves more than 7,000 uninsured patients who would otherwise go without care.
