L'Officine Universelle Buly at Bergdorf Goodman Opening April 18
NEW YORK, April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- L'Officine is best known for its 19th century shop on Rue Bonaparte in Paris, and its all natural beauty, grooming and fragrance products housed in unique and beautiful packaging. The company founded by Jean-Vincent Buly experienced a Golden Age in the interwar period, at around the same time as the world-famous Bergdorf Goodman moved into its current Fifth Avenue location in New York City.
It is thus only natural that L'Officine Universelle Buly should reconnect with its Art Deco past as it sets up shop exclusively inside Bergdorf Goodman, with a spectacular shop bedecked in ivory-colored cracked lacquer with brass accents located on the Beauty Level.
The store's furniture was entirely manufactured in France by the finest craftspeople, armed with the know-how of that era, and later shipped to the US–under the care of its French makers, who then supervised its on-site assembly. To mark the occasion, L'Officine Universelle Buly has also sent to New York one of Buly's original, monumental advertising posters from the 1920s, plucked from its private collection.
A striking exemplar of L'Officine's long, rich and varied history, this shop is also an aesthetic manifesto, against the contemporary tendency to cover the whole globe with stores that share the same architecture and design.
In opposition to the standardization of the world, L'Officine Universelle Buly advocates for a solid mooring in local cultures and respect for local history.
