SYDNEY, June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Long weekends and public holidays are prompting Aussie singles to look for love, with new research by eHarmony showing a significant spike in registration figures over the Anzac Day, Queen's Birthday and Labour Day holidays.
Data from eHarmony.com.au shows that the volume of new members logging onto the online relationship site skyrockets, with an average daily increase of 44 per cent. Aussie men are more likely to be signing up over long weekends, with an almost 10 per cent higher registration rate than women.
Older Australians are almost twice as likely to be looking for love over long weekends and public holidays as their younger counterparts, with a 46 per cent rise in the number of subscribers in the 25-46 age group, compared to 18-24 year olds.
eHarmony spokesperson Jason Chuck said the results were likely to be a consequence of Australians having time off from their busy schedules to pause and evaluate their lives. "For those single people among us, long weekends can be a period of review and reflection," said Chuck.
"Long weekends are synonymous with couples and lovers sneaking off for a romantic break. When you have no-one to share these intimate retreats with, it can bring sharply into focus a craving for passion and companionship that might otherwise get overlooked with our hectic schedules - hence the upsurge in registrations."
When broken down by state, Queensland is where most people are looking for love in Australia over long weekends, according to eHarmony's research, with an almost 70 per cent spike in registrations, while Victoria appears the most content, with only a 20 per cent rise.
