Many advances have been made in the field of vision correction surgery. Refractive and LASIK surgery improve vision and can even reduce or eliminate the need for corrective lenses such as contacts or eyeglasses. LASIK works by reshaping the cornea, or the clear part of the eye. This allows light to travel through it and focus more clearly on the retina, which is located in the back of the eye. LASIK is most appropriate for patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism.
After surgery, vision may continue to improve for several weeks or months. Results are generally quite positive with about three out of four patients achieving 20/20 vision. More than 95 percent of patients who have undergone refractive eye surgery improve to at least 20/40 vision. Some patients may continue to need glasses or contact lenses to achieve greater clarity. Dr. Rabbani offers pre-op and post-op evaluations to help patients better understand their treatment options, and provides patients with referrals to the most appropriate surgeons for their needs.
