Loudoun Lemonhead Council Launches to Support Local Entrepreneurs
LEESBURG, Va., Feb. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Tuesday February 9th the first session of the Loudoun Lemonhead Council convened at the Small Business Development Center in downtown Leesburg.
The Loudoun Lemonhead Council was formed to help local entrepreneurs start, grow and succeed in their businesses. The council is a volunteer group of experienced, successful entrepreneurs and business executives who are committed to sharing their experience with local business owners.
The council is a joint effort between the Executive Director of the Loudoun SBDC Robin Suomi and the authors of The Lemonade Stand book, Ara Bagdasarian and Nick Gustavsson. Bagdasarian and Gustavsson are entrepreneurs whose book started The Lemonhead Movement, and their vision is to have Local Lemonhead Councils all across the country to support small business owners. The first council has a total of fourteen local business men and women.
Over 20 applications were taken through the SBDC in less than two weeks from small business owners and entrepreneurs that wanted to present to the council. The application selection committee chose small business owners Jill Harvey of ClearGear and Jun Li of South Riding Health Consulting to present at the inaugural council session.
The presenting companies were given 30-45 minutes to provide the council with an overview of their organization and the areas where they would like input. The next step was a "lightning round" where each council member offered their initial observations. Finally presenting companies and council members discussed areas of opportunity in further detail.
After the session business owner Jill Harvey stated, "I was touched and overwhelmed by the experience. It was extremely positive and the input from each council member allowed me to walk away with a much clearer vision for my company."
The next session of the Loudoun Lemonhead Council is from 2-5 pm on April 12, 2012.
About The Lemonade Stand book and the Lemonhead Movement:
The Lemonhead Movement started from two entrepreneurs' desire to encourage entrepreneurship and provide their personal expertise to aspiring entrepreneurs through the thirteen principles detailed in The Lemonade Stand book. The goal is simple: teach the principles of The Lemonade Stand to as many entrepreneurs as possible – and energize them to be successful. To achieve this, the Lemonhead Movement gives away one copy of The Lemonade Stand for every copy purchased in a program they call LemonDrops.
