Louis Royer Cognac, the Leader of the Overproof Cognac Trend, Announces the 4th "Show Me the Proof!" High Proof Cognac Cocktail Competition, Accepting Entries June 15 through August 31, 2015 to Celebrate Its "Force 53" VSOP Fine Champagne Cognac
NEW YORK, June 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Louis Royer, an iconic Cognac house dating to 1853 and led by the fifth generation of its founding family, today announces the 4th "Show Me the Proof!" High Proof Cognac Cocktail Competition for professional bartenders and mixologists. It spotlights Louis Royer "Force 53" VSOP Fine Champagne Cognac, which has led the overproof Cognac trend since arriving in the U.S.
Cocktail recipe guidelines and submission forms are listed on www.shakestir.com/louisroyer. Recipes may be submitted from June 15 through August 31, 2015, with the final competition taking place in October 2015 in New York. The competition is being organized by Hanna Lee Communications, Inc., an award-winning agency specialized in spirits, food, wine, and lifestyle PR and social media marketing.
Finalists will compete for a Grand Prize, which includes a one-week, educational trip to France to visit Louis Royer Cognac's cellars in Jarnac, as well as two nights in Paris to enjoy The City of Light's refined take on cocktail culture, as well as Second and Third Prizes, $1,000 in cash for each.
"Our 'Force 53' is a game-changer in the Cognac and mixology worlds," says Nicolas Royer, U.S. Brand Ambassador, Louis Royer Cognac, who is a sixth-generation family member. "We were the first Cognac in contemporary times to launch an overproof version in the U.S. The reception by American bartenders was swift, positive and embracing. Over the past three years, these competitions have showcased the enthusiasm that the bartending community has for 'Force 53' and the creativity it unleashes. We're eager to see this year's recipe submissions."
Six finalists will compete in New York and demonstrate their cocktails for a distinguished panel of judges, including a leading member of the Royer family:
- Paul Pacult - Noted spirits critic and publisher/editor of The Spirit Journal
- Dale DeGroff - Legendary mixologist and founder of the Museum of the American Cocktail
- Steve Olson - Founder of aka wine geek and renowned spirits, wine and cocktail expert
- Jack Robertiello - Widely-respected spirits and cocktail writer
- Jerome Royer - Louis Royer Cognac's Master Selector and a fifth-generation family member
Timothy Miner (Long Island Bar, Brooklyn, N.Y.), who won the Grand Prize at last year's cocktail competition, will serve as an honorary judge.
"There is no substitute for 'Force 53' in cocktails," says Pacult. "Cognac has long held a prominent role in the mixology canon, but the drinks of yesteryear used overproof Cognac. At 106 proof, 'Force 53' makes it possible to recreate recipes going as far back as Jerry Thomas, but equally important, it frees a whole new generation of bartenders to make their own creations. I've been inspired by the artistry, ingenuity and nuance of our past recipe submissions and look forward to the new entries."
The competition's partner is ShakeStir.com, a leading online community for bartenders and mixologists.
