Low Cost Private GP Service Taking Pressure Off Overstretched NHS Services
LONDON, January 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
The GP Surgery has newly opened in the heart of Wimbledon in response to patient concerns about NHS GP inaccessibility. With increased strain on GP services over the winter period waiting times for a routine GP appointment have increased, with a resulting increased burden on urgent care, A&E and out-of-hours GP services.
Started by two local NHS GPs who noticed increasing demand for same-day access at times convenient to the patient, The GP Surgery opened last month to provide seven-day-a-week appointments at times suited to the commuter, with early morning and evening sessions available.
A key difference to other private GP services however, is affordability, with an appointment only costing £35. In addition, the clinic offers blood tests and investigations to the patient at cost price, with only a nominal administration fee. There is also a minor surgery service to remove non-cancerous but bothersome skin lesions that the NHS is increasingly unable to fund.
Dr Sudip Dutta, a director at The GP Surgery explains, "Some people have never considered private healthcare previously, thinking it unaffordable or only accessible to those with health insurance. Here at The GP Surgery we realised that many patients would be happy to pay a reasonable fee in order to see an experienced GP at a time that fits around their lifestyle, if this service was made available to them."
