LowFares.com™ Annual Survey Reveals Christmas Wins Over Thanksgiving As Most Popular Travel Holiday; Travel Beyond Local Areas on the Rise

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 19, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the third annual holiday survey by LowFares.com^TM, the travel comparison search site for cheap flights, hotels, car rentals and vacation packages, respondents indicated that Christmas will be the most popular travel holiday this year with 65.4% of respondents intending to travel for Christmas while 38.7% plan to travel for Thanksgiving, and 26.3% intend to travel for New Year's Eve.

Also according to the annual survey, more people are making travel plans beyond their immediate area – only 3.5% said they would stay close to home, versus 28% last year.

The survey also revealed:

• Almost universally, price remains the biggest consideration when deciding on airline purchases – 91.8% so confirmed.
• Booking a well-priced hotel is the second biggest, said 70.2% of respondents.  
• More than 63.9% said they plan to fly this holiday season, compared to 59% last year.
• While the majority plans to stay with family over the holidays, 46.2% will opt for a hotel room.
• Many travelers appear to be last-minute holiday shoppers with 53.6% planning their holiday plans one month or less in advance.
• Another 29.9% of respondents plan to travel by airplane and car while 23.9% are traveling only by car, and 3.0% by train.
