Loxogon Offers Hospitals Using Epic Software Special Rate for Medicare Eligibility Transactions
OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., Feb. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Hospitals, like the rest of the economy, face financial challenges in 2012. Healthcare business experts predict the stagnant economy and high unemployment rate will restrict growth but not costs.
Loxogon, a company specializing in healthcare software applications, is partnering with hospitals to help them reduce their operating costs. Hospitals using the Epic health information system (HIS) can take advantage of special rates for X12 5010 270/271 Medicare eligibility transactions.
"Hospitals are facing financial hardships due to decreasing reimbursement and volume, coupled with increased operating costs," said Loxogon President Andrew Yashchuk.
"Hospitals should look at eligibility transactions as nothing more than a commodity. These transactions are based on HIPAA standards and they all come from the same sources - insurance companies - so there's no reason hospitals should be overpaying for this commodity," said Yashchuk.
Loxogon's pricing is two-tier, based on hospital size. For hospitals using Epic with 250 beds or more, the rate for Medicare eligibility is $500 per month for unlimited transactions. For hospitals with fewer than 250 beds, a lower price can be negotiated. Non-Epic hospitals also can qualify for the special rates if they use an X12 5010 270/271 eligibility interface.
Yashchuk said Loxogon also can provide an all-payer solution at prices that will cut hospitals' current overall eligibility costs in half.
Loxogon has direct access to Medicare's HIPAA Eligibility Transaction System (HETS) for Medicare eligibility transactions. The company is partnering with hospitals using X12 eligibility interfaces because it is easy for such hospitals to switch to a different vendor very quickly without disruption to their users. The savings from switching to Loxogon can be realized immediately. Implementation time is not dependent on Loxogon - it's up to a hospital to decide how fast they want to implement.
Yashchuk said that if hospitals work to contain costs, they can ultimately avoid passing on extra costs to patients: "This is important for community-based hospitals. Cutting costs shows a good-faith effort on the part of hospitals."
