CALGARY, April 19 /PRNewswire/ - Acne can be a confidence-shattering condition for many Canadians, especially young adults. For those suffering from persistent and painful spots, the only choice is sticky creams or drugs that can potentially have dangerous side effects. Now Canadians have another choice in acne treatment with the launch of Lumie Clear™ - a new light-based treatment for mild to moderate acne.
"For decades, doctors have used light therapy to soothe inflammation and knock out bacteria, the two culprits in common acne," said Dr. Meg Jordan, PhD. "Finally there's a consumer-friendly light-based therapy that addresses these two fronts for acne control - I highly recommend this non-pharmaceutical alternative, especially for young adults."
Acne affects up to 80 per cent of adolescentsi. For many, it can be only a few spots, but for others it can be highly painful and debilitating - both emotionally and socially. Lumie Clear™ works by using a combination of specialized blue and red LED lights that are proven in clinical trials to treat bacteria and inflammation simultaneously.
"There's no question that red and blue LED light therapy provide a safe treatment," said Dr. Jordan. "Clinical studies demonstrate that red light reduces inflammation and blue light kills bacteria - the use of the two wavelengths was proven to be significantly better than the use of blue light alone."
Lumie Clear™ is based on the same technology that is used in spas and dermatology clinics worldwide. It's a safe and effective treatment. In clinical trials, this kind of combined blue/red light therapy made a real difference within four weeks. After 12 weeks, skin was 76 per cent less inflamed and 56 per cent clearer.ii
This stylish easy-to-use device can be held next to your skin for an intensive treatment or placed in its cradle to treat a wider area such as your back or shoulders.
Lumie Clear™ is available online at an introductory price of $199 (regular price $299). For more information and skin care tips, visit www.lumie.ca.
