Lushan Mountain Attendance Up 15 Percent; Resort Kicks Off The New Year With Well-attended Events
LUSHAN, China, Jan. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Lushan Mountain's tourism business got off to a good start during China's three-day New Year's holiday from January 1st to 3rd. The number of visitors to the area rose 15 percent from last year, with 12,000 people making the trip and more than 1,600 tour buses, a 10 percent increase year on year, transporting them. Meanwhile, more than 2,200 trekkers enjoyed a walk or hiked the mountain's many trails.

Lushan Mountain attracted tourists by waiving the entrance fee during the three-day period. Visitors hailed mainly from surrounding provinces, with many of them students who came on package tours. The changeable weather over the three days was a true boon to visitors: warmth and sunshine on New Year's Day itself, colder weather and covered skies on day 2 gave way to a mountain blanketed in a thin but exquisite layer of frozen dew and hoarfrost, followed by day 3 during which a heavy snowfall transformed the area into a winter wonderland, providing visitors with three completely different and unique experiences which otherwise would have required three separate visits to achieve. Every scenic spot was crowded with visitors, hotel rooms were fully booked and shops were full of people.
At the midnight hour on January 1st, nearly a thousand visitors, local inhabitants and representatives from the five major religions took turns in ringing the prayer bell 108 times and praying in unison for good times ahead, the prosperity of the country, social harmony and world peace. The five religious leaders said that they participated in the meaningful event as a way of spreading good cheer.
In order to ensure the quality of the services provided during the holiday, leaders from the Lushan Administration Bureau inspected the scenic spots and service areas every day and officials from law enforcement and landscaping departments were on call to maintain an orderly flow of traffic during this particularly busy period. Hotels made sure they had adequate heat for the wintry days and evenings while merchants and sightseeing bus providers launched a campaign to improve the local environment, upgrade public order and provide better services in a move to assure visitors of an enjoyable and memorable experience while in Lushan.
