WAXAHACHIE, Texas, Oct. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The formal Fire Marshal's investigation into the cause of the fire that destroyed Magnablend, Inc.'s Texas Central Plant here on Monday has begun.
Company officials met with Waxahachie Fire Chief David Hudgins and Fire Marshal Dennis Crecelius on Wednesday morning, and the company is cooperating fully with the investigation.
Although the investigation has formally begun, the Fire Marshal is still awaiting permission from EPA and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality before his team can enter the site to conduct their onsite inspection and analysis.
Efforts to completely extinguish the fire by using foam began Wednesday and are likely to continue at least into Thursday, and the company hopes to have its first opportunity to enter the plant within several days. Lack of access to the facility in the immediate aftermath of the fire has limited the company's ability to determine its cause, but CEO Scott Pendery expressed optimism that the cause would be found soon.
"We have great confidence in Chief Hudgins and his team, and we are committed to cooperating fully," Pendery said. "I am confident that we will be able to determine what happened, and to learn from it and work to prevent anything like this from happening again at any of our facilities."
Meanwhile, EPA is continuing to monitor air quality and has reported no health concerns relating to the fire. The company's independent monitoring efforts have produced the same results.
Pendery reiterated his gratitude to the community for its support and to the firefighters and other first responders, and to the company's employees. He also expressed Magnablend's commitment to rebuilding in Waxahachie.
