Major League Pitcher Jose Ariel Contreras Grants Interview to OnCuba in Pinar del Rio
MIAMI, Jan. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A team of reporters from OnCuba magazine visited this Wednesday baseball star Jose Ariel Contreras in his mother's house in westernmost Pinar del Rio province.
The Cuban pitcher, who resides in the United States since 2001, is visiting Cuba for the first after a decade outside the country.
After the new Cuban migratory law came into force last January 14, allowing sportspeople that defected to enter Cuba, Jose Ariel is back.
Yesterday, relatives and friends gathered in his hometown of Las Martinas in Pinar del Rio to welcome him. They waited anxiously for hours and the OnCuba team talked with many of them, who visibly moved, spoke of the love and admiration they feel for the baseball player.
Contreras arrived in the afternoon with his wife Isabel. "I am very thrilled, I can't believe I am here with my family, at home, with my friends and my mother, who is pretty much recovered," he said minutes before the interview.
