OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), in partnership with the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee, has produced three new collectible limited-edition Clipper cards in honor of Super Bowl 50 taking place in the San Francisco Bay Area. The new Super Bowl 50 cards join other collectible Clipper cards such as the Bay Bridge East Span and the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary Clipper card as well as other collectible Clipper cards produced in partnership with the Golden State Warriors, San Jose Sharks and the America's Cup. 

"We're excited to offer not one but three new collectible cards to celebrate Super Bowl 50 taking place at the Bay Area's premier sporting event facility, Levi's® Stadium," said Carol Kuester, director of Electronic Fare Payments for MTC. "It's a great opportunity to let tourists as well as Bay Area residents know how Clipper makes paying for transit around the region much more convenient."

Customers who order a Clipper card online at clippercard.com or by calling Clipper Customer Service at 877.878.8883 will automatically receive one of the new collectible cards while supplies last. A limited number of cards were printed, and they are expected to sell out quickly.

Football fans can also purchase the limited-edition collectible cards—priced at $3 each—in person at select Clipper retailers as well as in-person at Clipper Customer Service Centers:

To help customers who are seeking collectible cards, the Clipper Facebook page will post updates about card availability. The three different Super Bowl 50 card designs are being randomly distributed to customers and retailers.

All of the Super Bowl 50 collectible Clipper cards can be used on any of 17 public transit systems: AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, County Connection, FAST, Golden Gate Bus and Ferry, Marin Transit, Muni, Napa VINE, SamTrans, San Francisco Bay Ferry, SolTrans, Tri Delta Transit, Vacaville City Coach, Valley Transportation Authority, WestCAT and Wheels — as well as the Dumbarton Express. (Note that VTA will only accept special ticketing for transportation to the Super Bowl game itself. VTA vehicles serving Levi's Stadium on Feb. 7 will not accept Clipper cards.)

Customers may add any combination of cash value—accepted on all participating Bay Area transit systems—or passes, where available, onto the Super Bowl 50 collectible cards. Super Bowl 50 cards ordered online or over the phone or purchased from a retailer function only as adult Clipper cards and do not provide discounts for seniors or youths.

Introduced in June 2010, Clipper is the all-in-one card that makes paying for transit easier. Clipper automatically figures out the cost of your ride, including all discounts and transfers. It is now used for fare payment on roughly half of all transit trips in the Bay Area.

Clipper is a service provided by Bay Area transit operators and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area.
