Prescribed fuel plans only deliver value if the driver can follow them without fighting the rest of the day's events. By helping to optimize parking, scale management, washout services, and bridge clearances; your fleet no longer has to rely on information that lives in secondary sources, requires a phone call or depends on your driver's memory. NavGuru now includes it inside the same navigation system your fleet is already using for routing and fuel stops.
What is new for the driver
- Places on the road ahead: About 243,000 truck places and restrictions built in-house from official and public sources, including more than 200,000 low bridges and posted weight, length, width and hazmat restrictions, 22,500 truck parking and rest sites, weigh stations, CAT scales, repair shops and 938 washes with wash types and certifications. Shown along the corridor of the route being driven, with distance ahead, distance off route and which side of the road, not as a pile of nearby pins. Restrictions are checked against this truck's own height, weight and length.
- Live truck parking: Where a state publishes counts, parking shows spaces free, the trend and a plain read: likely a spot, filling up, full. If the driver's own planned stop drops to a handful of spaces, NavGuru says so once and offers the next option.
- Live road conditions: Work zones, closures, posted bridge limits, chain control and weather for the exact route, from state and provincial feeds across the US and Canada, refreshed on every reroute.
- Fleet zone alerts: Staged, speed-aware warnings for zones the fleet draws itself: no-truck routes, hazmat restrictions, high-rollover ramps, steep grades, cargo-theft areas, yards and customer sites. The dispatcher's own message is delivered word for word. Directions always come first.
- One tap to add a stop: Add a truck stop, a wash or a parking lot from the map and the route, tolls and fuel plan update together. The office sees the added stop the moment it happens.
What was already there, and what dispatch gets now
Your data drives the decision: FuelGuru® prescribes both the stops and the number of gallons from your fleet's fuel file. That information seamlessly integrates to NavGuru and includes your fleet's fuel file and negotiated prices from your fuel card provider (including which stops are approved, which stops are blocked, the reserve it wants in the tank. Where the fleet's card program supports it, the purchase is locked to the prescribed stop. Drivers see the prescribed stop marked on the route next to the truck-fuel places ahead, so an unplanned stop is a choice made in the open, not a surprise on the fuel bill.
Dispatch keeps control of that plan while the truck is moving. The office can push a new route to the cab mid-trip, add a stop, or mark a fuel stop unavailable. When a stop is marked unavailable, every route that used it gets the next best fuel stop automatically, on the same negotiated prices and rules, without a dispatcher re-sending each load. If the driver misses a stop or leaves the route, NavGuru reroutes from where the truck is and the fuel plan is recomputed for the new route.
"Too often, compliance is binary: you either followed the plan or you didn't. But trucking doesn't operate in a perfect world. On the dashboard, dispatch sees the same places along the route the driver sees, plus the planned route against the path driven, every reroute, every zone crossing, on-route percentage, fuel level and speed. When the trip closes, route adherence, excess miles and the estimated cost of each deviation are scored from the GPS track against the approved route. Dispatch changes and safety reroutes are attributed to the system, never the driver. Every trip links back to the order it belongs to, whether it was dispatched from the office or started from the truck's own in-cab system.
What it is worth to a fleet
- Fuel compliance: At one dedicated carrier running more than 2,500 trucks, fuel-prescription compliance moved from 74% to above 98% within four months of putting the fuel plan inside the driver's navigation. A plan followed three quarters of the time leaks a quarter of its savings before anyone books a number.
- Route and fuel savings: Closing the gap between the routes trucks actually take and the economically best routes, with fuel bought where the fleet's card gets its best price, is worth about $5 million a year for a 3,000-truck fleet, measured on the fleet's own routes and cost structure.
- Safety and compliance: Low bridges, posted limits, hazmat and chain control are checked against the truck before the driver reaches them. Yard and customer-site visits are recorded with dwell time. Every zone crossing is logged with the route the truck was on, so a warning can be shown to have preceded a violation.
- Control without an app update: Places, live conditions and zone alerts are switched on per fleet from the back office. NavGuru runs embedded on ELD tablets and as an app on Android and iOS. GPS already flows in from Geotab, Samsara, Motive, Platform Science, and OEM telematics.
"The connected trip was already there: the office prescribes the route and the fuel, the driver runs it, and we show the fleet what the plan cost against what the trip cost," said Maneesh Mahlawat, CTO and Co-founder of MapUp. So we put the parking lot, the scale, the wash and the low bridge on the same screen as the route and the fuel stop.
