March marks 39th consecutive month of sales growth for Hyundai Canada

MARKHAM, ON, April 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced today record March sales of 12,605 units, an 8.0% increase relative to the same month last year. With this most recent result, the company now stands at 39 consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth. With a cumulative total of 29,331 units at the end of the first quarter, Hyundai's year-to-date sales have grown by 8.4% over the corresponding period in 2011.

"Given our tremendous success last year, our sales in the first quarter of 2012 have been all the more impressive," noted Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. "As we head into the Spring selling season, Hyundai is poised to continue building on our strong presence in the Canadian automotive industry."

Hyundai also announced that with 4,102 units of the Elantra sedan sold, March was the best month of sales in the model's history. This result comes two months after Elantra was named North American Car of the Year and just one month after it was named Canadian Car of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).

Kelleher added that the company was confident Elantra would be a class-leading product even before its introduction. "By helping show an ever-increasing number of consumers just how great Elantra is, the awards and accolades the car has earned this year are translating directly into sales performance. When it's joined by two-door Coupe and five-door GT variants later this year, Hyundai will truly have the most impressive line-up in the compact segment."

In March, Hyundai vehicles consuming less than 5.0 L/100 km represented 52% of total sales. The Sonata Hybrid intermediate sedan, Elantra compact sedan, Accent subcompact, and Veloster 3-door coupe consume fuel at a respective rate of just 4.6, 4.9, 4.8 and 4.9 L/100km on the highway.
