Marine Corps Marathon to host Press Conference on October 24
National Press Club event to feature Actor Sean Astin, Medal of Honor Recipient & MCM Runners
QUANTICO, Va., Oct. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) invites media to attend the pre-Marathon Press Conference on Friday, Oct. 24 beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Actor Sean Astin, who will start and run the 39th MCM, will join Medal of Honor Recipient Ret. Marine Cpl. William Kyle Carpenter during the press conference that focuses on MCM participants and U.S. Marine support of the celebrated Marathon.
Carpenter will run the MCM after skydiving in tandem into the MCM start in Arlington, VA on Sunday, Oct. 26. Carpenter and fellow skydivers will talk about their exciting decent over the MCM start line that will include an enormous American flag.
Astin currently stars in "The Strain," on FX Networks. From childhood, Astin has enjoyed a successful career as a producer, director and renowned actor earning title roles in classic movies such as "The Goonies," "Rudy," and "The Lord of the Rings."
The MCM is also teaming with A&E Networks to present the newest event during MCM Weekend, the inaugural "Dogs of War" 2K-9 dog-friendly walk/run on the National Mall. The event will include military service dogs and their owners and many other local canines. The event will coincide with the start of the MCM10K on Sunday, Oct. 26. Dogs of War participants will start at 7:40 a.m., just prior to the MCM10K start at 7:55 a.m. Both events begin on the National Mall at 12th and Madison Drive in Northwest Washington, DC.
Media can pick up credentials for MCM Weekend while at the Press Conference, and the 2014 MCM Media Guide, also available online at www.marinemarathon.com. The MCM Press Conference is open to media only, doors open at noon. The National Press Club is located on the 13th floor at 529 14th Street Northwest in Washington, D.C.
To obtain MCM credentials, media must submit the Credential Request Form located on the Media Services page of the MCM website at www.marinemarathon.com. Media must be credentialed to cover events throughout MCM Weekend including Marathon Day on Sunday, Oct. 26.
