WASHINGTON and NEW YORK and LONDON, April 19, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With National Pet Parent Day coming this week, MarketResearch.com created an infographic providing statistics and trends about today's pet parents.
Many people who own pets not only find them to be an important source of love and companionship, but also find that pets can be good for their health. Several "national holidays" dedicated to pets receive plenty of attention through social media, including National Pet Day (April 11), National Pet Parent Day (Last Sunday of April), National Kids and Pets Day (April 26), Adopt a Shelter Pet Day (April 30), and many more.
In 2015, the largest number of pet owners by generation was the Boomers, aged 55-74, with 28.1% of them owning pets. Following close behind was Generation X, aged 40-54, with 26.3%, and Millennials, with 25.7%. These numbers are expected to shift by 2020: Millennials will increase to 26.1%, Boomers will increase to 29.7%, and lastly, Generation X will decrease to 24.3%.
Millennials are expected to play an important role in the future of the pet industry. Between 2007 and 2015, Millennials were responsible for 43% of the growth in the number of pet owners.
