Marlabs Achieves HITRUST Common Security Framework (CSF) Assessor Status
PISCATAWAY, N.J., June 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Marlabs Inc., a leading provider of innovative Information Technology services, announced today that it has been designated by the Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) as a Common Security Framework (CSF) Assessor. Marlabs is one of only a select few companies nationwide to achieve CSF Assessor status, which allows it to perform assessment and other services related to the CSF, the most widely adopted security framework in the healthcare industry.
HITRUST CSF Assessors are the only organizations approved by HITRUST to perform services associated with the HITRUST CSF Assurance Program. The CSF Assurance Program provides multiple benefits to both healthcare organizations and their business associates by offering a common and efficient approach to managing security assessments associated with multiple and varied assurance requirements.
"Managing information security and privacy is one of the most urgent and important challenges facing healthcare organizations today. Expanding regulatory requirements, advanced security threats, increasing digitization and mobility, and growing dependence on business associates have given rise to a multitude of information security issues," said Jay Nair, Senior Vice President – Sales and COO, Marlabs. "Our status and knowledge as a CSF Assessor will allow us to better assist healthcare organizations in addressing the challenges and finding solutions associated with managing these issues."
Furthermore, there is growing acknowledgement of the urgent need to improve cybersecurity safeguards in order to safeguard vital information. Recent events in the healthcare industry demonstrate that even well-protected networks are vulnerable to attacks of ever-increasing sophistication. In fact, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has taken action to beef up healthcare IT cybersecurity by appointing a new chief privacy officer and offering a new contract to study cybersecurity.
"At Marlabs we help organizations implement a 'protect, detect, deter' security risk strategy; while ensuring their cybersecurity programs are aligned to their organizational strategy and business objectives," said Robert Parham, Director – Information Security Practice, Marlabs. "Our Information Security Management services portfolio includes: Information Security Risk Assessment, Penetration Testing, Security Policy Development, Security Awareness Training & Education, Security Incident Planning; as well as an extensive Cyber Intelligence Threat Management Service."
What sets Marlabs apart is its uniquely holistic approach towards information security management that ensures that security programs meet regulatory obligations from a people, process, and technology standpoint. Leveraging the right combination of information security/compliance domain expertise, and healthcare industry knowledge and experience, Marlabs has been helping healthcare organizations successfully navigate the growing complexities of information security, privacy and compliance management.
"We are pleased to have Marlabs become a CSF Assessor," said Ken Vander Wal, chief compliance officer, HITRUST. "As a CSF Assessor, Marlabs is best positioned to help healthcare organizations implement an effective information security management program that addresses security and privacy threats appropriately and meets all applicable compliance requirements."
