MARSULEX RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS NPRA AWARDS FOR SAFETY PERFORMANCE AT THREE U.S. GULF COAST REFINERIES
TEXAS CITY, March 28 /PRNewswire/ - Marsulex Inc. has received three prestigious Contractor Safety Merit Awards from the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (NPRA) for performance in 2010 at the Marathon Garyville (Louisiana) Refinery, the Motiva Port Arthur (Texas) Refinery, and the Valero Texas City (Texas) Refinery.
Marsulex provides outsourced petcoke cutting, handling and logistics services to the three refineries and was nominated for the awards by Marathon, Motiva and Valero.
The awards are part of a comprehensive safety program developed by NPRA's Safety and Health Committee to promote accident prevention in the petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing industries as well as the contractors supporting them and to publicly recognize those facilities that for the previous year have achieved a high safety standard in their daily operations. Granting of these awards is based on both the contractor and the client achieving exceptionally high performance in meeting rigorous safety standards.
Randy Hull, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing & Development, said, "Marsulex has won numerous safety awards in the past, but this is the first time we have won three in the same category in the same year. This level of recognition by our industry at three separate refineries is testimony to our primary commitment to safety performance and our continuous focus on sharing best practices across the Company's diverse operations in a rigorous, disciplined fashion to achieve superior performance in safety, as well as reliability and cost performance.
"These latest awards follow two we received for 2009 performance and are further strong indicators that we continue to deliver measureable and superior value to refiners in non-core operating areas of the refinery. With strong growth of petcoke and sulphur volumes predicted for the global petroleum refining industry, we are confident of increasing demand for our processing and logistics services."
Mr. Hull said safety and reliability are cornerstones of Marsulex's value proposition to refiners, and the Company has an enviable track record for performance in the area of environmental health and safety at all of its refinery and chemical plant sites.
Marsulex, which owns and operates 22 facilities across North America, is a leading provider of refining and logistics services, including environmental compliance solutions for air quality control, processing and handling of refining and chemical by-products or waste streams, and is a producer and marketer of sulphur-based industrial chemicals. The Company's services and products are provided to a broad base of industrial, refining and chemical customers. Marsulex is a public company with shares listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, trading under the symbol MLX. Website: www.marsulex.com
