Maryland-Based Medical Emergency Professionals Edges Out National Competitors to Win Its First Out-of-State Hospital Contract
GERMANTOWN, Md., Sept. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Medical Emergency Professionals (MEP), an emergency physician partnership and management group based in Germantown, announced Thursday it has won its first hospital contract to manage and staff an emergency department (ED) outside of Maryland. MEP will take over management of the ED at Bristol Hospital in Connecticut starting January 1, 2012.
MEP currently manages five emergency departments in hospitals throughout Maryland as well as a freestanding emergency care facility in Germantown. After an extensive proposal and review process, MEP beat out 10 other groups to manage the ED at Bristol Hospital, including companies with national reach and hundreds of hospital contracts.
"Winning our first contract outside Maryland is a huge step for MEP. It proves that an efficient, forward-thinking company willing to work in close partnership with a hospital's leadership team can go head to head with a national company and come out on top," said MEP CEO Angelo Falcone.
Bristol Hospital serves approximately 40,000 patients a year, which will be added to the approximately 350,000 patients currently served by MEP each year. MEP expects to hire at least eight new physicians and five physician assistants/nurse practitioners in Bristol as part of the expansion.
"Our success is the result of the clinical care we provide at each patient's bedside," Falcone said. "We won this contract because of our demonstrated excellence at EDs known for their quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction, and our commitment to true partnership with hospital leaders."
