The protection of private data on the Internet is a major problem involving governments, companies and individuals. On Oct. 8, 2014, Google CEO Eric Schmidt affirmed at a round table(1) that rogue access from government agencies threatened to break the Internet.

Even the latest consumer applications that seem not to require a user's identity end up accessing personal data (phone, address, location, email). These applications then know enough about a user's private details to become a threat to them (spam, phishing, scam, etc.).

What becomes necessary is the reestablishment of individuals' confidence, the quality Brad Smith, Legal Consultant for Microsoft, places at the center of the Internet(1). For this, there is only one solution: to never have to provide any private data!

This thinking led to the creation of Masklog, the first Internet environment that provides communication and facilitating services. Identification is achieved only through the specification of the brand and unique number of a personal object (serial number of a watch or of a jewel, IMEI of a mobile phone, etc.): no personal information is required. A password is then used to secure the account.

A personal item with a unique number has many advantages: it is discrete, accessible, unique in the world and separable from its owner. It further replaces the email address typically used as a unique identifier, usually the means of communication at the heart of private data hacking.

Masklog's first communication service enables the exchange of messages with contacts identified by their object: In facts, Masklog manages the sending and receiving of a message from an object to another object. These two objects must have a unique number (like a serial number) to be clearly identified within their respective brand. It then also allows users to store photos of their item as proof of its existence for insurance purposes. Any site can be hacked, but a potential hacker in this case discovers only a photo of an object that belongs to ... an unidentifiable person!

Masklog thus demonstrates that it is possible to create a friendly global Internet that respects privacy and is more secure, using the common sense rules of everyday life.
