"We're thrilled to be honored by the Mayor's office," says Ann Seltz, president of the Center for Environmental Innovation and Leadership, sponsor of GOVgreen. "We're working now to coordinate with DC environmental organizations so that D.C. GOVgreen Week will have city-wide impact."
CEIL's GOVgreen launched in 2010 with a commitment to being one of the best green events. The inaugural show diverted 70%—over 5,000 pounds of trash from landfills, reduced waste-per-attendee to 1.5 lbs and achieved a net-zero, carbon neutral event.
"Our goal is to improve our performance for 2011," says Seltz. "We are working to increase waste diversion to 80%. We'll also provide a carbon offset area where attendees can evaluate their individual carbon offset as well as understand how what GOVgreen is doing. We're also providing more information to our exhibitors to help reduce waste from exhibits and recycle or repurpose as much materials as possible."
GOVgreen 2011's educational program provides practical information to help government stakeholders transform green policies into actionable plans that achieve sustainability in energy, facilities, transportation and conservation. The 25 sessions are free to federal and military and qualify for learning credits from AIA and USGBC. The exhibit floor is free to all.
