Mazatlan's "Temporada Primavera" Promotes City as Cultural Destination; Brings Together Local Families Through Art

MAZATLAN, Mexico, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- To strengthen its image as top cultural destination in the Mexican Pacific and raise awareness of local and regional artists and performances, the city of Mazatlan is promoting cultural activities this spring, from mid-March to July 5th, through the "Temporada Primavera," or the "Spring Season," program.

"This spring season the city of Mazatlan will play host to over 70 cultural activities, including ballet, contemporary dance and operatic performances, as well as musical, theatrical and film events," said Raul Rico, Director, Institute for Culture of Mazatlan. "'Temporada Primavera' is an important program to illustrate Mazatlan's commitment to the arts and arts education."

Some highlights of the program include: the Children's Cultural Festival, organized by the Sinaloan Institute for Culture, in mid March; the XXVI Jose Limon International Dance Festival in late April; and a day-long music festival in the city's historical center in early May.

According to CULTURA's director, "Temporada Primavera" brings together families by bringing them closer to art. The program particularly appeals to the youth by including children-friendly performances, such as Bastian and Bastiana and Puss in Boots, and develops the city's Artistic Development Program by featuring those who have graduated from the Municipal Arts Center.

"More than 8,000 children will enjoy performances for young audiences, motivating them to take a closer look and greater interest in the performing arts," said Jorge Fuentevilla, president of Friends of the Opera and the Arts.

Performances and viewings will take place at the following venues: Teatro Angela Peralta, Angela Peralta Gallery, the Museum Antonio Haas, the Orphanage Mazatlan, the Cinematograph Municipal Center for the Arts, Plaza Machado, as well as the Historic Centre streets, neighborhoods and rural areas.

Among other events, the Angela Peralta Theater and the Camerta will host twelve concerts with a roster of events, including concerts for children, general audience concerts, and special musical concerts featuring the works of Debussy, Respighi, Mahler, Strauss and Wagner.
